How it works
01Choose one person
Start with the relationship you want help understanding—a friend, family member, partner, co-parent, colleague, date, or someone in between.
02Add a conversation
Choose one to three screenshots and add any context the messages leave out. subtxt extracts the visible exchange and grounds its observations in what was actually said.
03See what changed
Your first conversation creates an early observation. As you add ordinary exchanges, subtxt learns what is usual for that person and compares new moments with the relationship's own history.
04Think it through
Ask what changed, how this compares with the usual pattern, or what you want a reply to accomplish. The saved context stays attached to that person.
A second opinion that remembers the whole story
A one-off analysis sees one moment. subtxt keeps a separate record for each person: the conversations you chose, earlier observations, confirmed notes, recurring themes, and what counts as normal for that relationship. Return a week or a month later and you do not have to explain everything again.

What it won't do
- Read conversations you did not choose. subtxt only analyzes screenshots you select or a latest screenshot you explicitly ask it to find.
- Pretend to know what someone thinks. It describes visible communication patterns—not intent, personality, or diagnosis.
- Hand down a verdict. Scores and signals are context from the conversations you provided, not a judgment about the person or the relationship.
- Make the decision for you. subtxt helps you slow down, examine the record, and decide what it means in your life.

What is subtxt and how does it work?
subtxt is a private relationship record for iPhone. Choose a person and select conversation screenshots; subtxt turns the visible messages into grounded observations, saves the evolving record on your device, and compares later conversations with that person's usual pattern once enough history exists.
Is subtxt a messaging app or does it read my messages automatically?
No. subtxt is not a messaging app and does not quietly read everything. It analyzes only screenshots you select or a latest screenshot you explicitly ask it to find through Photos permission. Nothing is monitored in the background.
What kind of relationships can I track with subtxt?
You can create records for friends, family, work contacts, dates, partners, co-parents, and relationships that are difficult to define. Each person gets a separate record, and the analysis takes the relationship category into account.
What does subtxt look at?
subtxt looks at initiation balance, reply timing when timestamps are visible, tone, message length, recurring themes, observed signals, and change over time. It also shows a 0-100 relationship signal, but that score is a summary of the selected conversations—not an objective measure of the relationship's health.
What are observed signals?
subtxt groups visible communication patterns as supportive, mixed, or concerning. Where a particular message supports a signal, the app can show the quote beside it. These are observations from the evidence you selected, not labels for the person.
Can I chat with AI about my relationships in subtxt?
Yes. Each person has a separate AI chat that can use that person's saved analyses, relevant history, pinned messages, and notes you have confirmed. Ask what changed, how the latest exchange compares with the usual pattern, or what you want a reply to accomplish.
Is my conversation data private and secure?
You choose what is analyzed. Text recognition runs on your iPhone first; with your consent, selected screenshot data, extracted text, and relevant context may be sent through subtxt's secure backend to OpenAI for analysis. Saved relationship records and chats remain on your iPhone. No named account is required, and app-owned data can be exported or deleted from Settings.
How is subtxt different from other relationship apps?
subtxt is designed less like a one-time message decoder and more like a living relationship record. It builds a separate history for each person, learns that relationship's usual pattern, shows what changed, preserves context for follow-up conversations, and helps you notice your own patterns when enough relationships have been added.
What platforms does subtxt support?
subtxt is built for iPhone and can analyze readable conversation screenshots from Messages, WhatsApp, and other messaging apps. You decide which screenshots to provide.
When will subtxt be available?
subtxt is in active development for iPhone. We will publish the App Store link here when it is ready.
Does subtxt compare my relationships?
Each person's primary analysis is compared with that relationship's own history—not with a universal texting standard or a leaderboard of people in your life. Once you have enough data across several categories, the private Insights view can also show patterns in how you communicate.
What happens after the first screenshot?
The first screenshot creates an early observation. After several saved conversations, subtxt can establish that person's usual pattern and show whether later exchanges appear typical, different, or part of a repeated change.
